Population origins and characteristics: 1881 - 1901.

The number of immigrants who came to Saskatchewan during the 1880s was only a fraction of what was hoped for. Most were part of colonization companies or the attempts by wealthy individuals to establish a colony or village. Even though the railway had been completed the flood of setters did not arrive, mainly due to world economic conditions and the availability of land in the American west.
