A farmer in the Heward district checks his crop for signs of frost.


"What may appear to be a perfect crop still had to taken off the field and the moment had to be timed just right. The prairie climate could always throw a curve at the homesteader and ruin a bumper crop. While there were times of drought and other natural disasters that affected the yield, there were many excellent crops."
