Saskatchewan Homestead Index Project Appreciation Event

The Saskatchewan Archives hosted an Appreciation Event on June 15, 2004 to show their gratitude and recognize the many individuals and organizations who are working diligently to get the Saskatchewan homestead index on line. It is hoped that the full index can be released in CD-ROM format and on the internet for Saskatchewan s provincial centennial in 2005.
To date, approximately 163,000 entries or one half of the total number of index cards have been converted to electronic format. The project is being spearheaded by the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society with funding to date from Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation and the Saskatchewan Archives. Other partners include the Information Services Corporation and the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.
The event brought together the SGS data entry clerks, volunteer proofreaders, Archives staff and other guests from Regina and Saskatoon. Everyone took the opportunity to socialize and partake in refreshments and snacks. Marge Thomas, Executive Director, SGS, and D Arcy Hande, Director of Historical Records, thanked everyone for their work and dedication to the project. Local media attended as well, resulting in newspaper articles and television and radio reports. This project is a true partnership and without the SGS volunteers and SAB staff who contribute beyond their daily work schedule it would not be achievable.
