Saskatchewan Archives Celebrates Heritage Week 2005 with ARCHIVES IN YOUR ATTIC

2/22/2005

Are there important and valuable historical records lurking in your basement or attic? Are you waiting for that "rainy day" to sort them out? Rain or shine, this might be the day! To celebrate the Province's Centennial and Heritage Week the Saskatchewan Archives is hosting a panel of experts who will provide you with FREE advice on how to look after your old letters, diaries, photographs, scrapbooks, movies, tapes, maps or rare books. You may even discover that your great-grandma's love letters or your dad's old films have historical significance! And the memorabilia don't have to date back three or four generations to have historical value even last year's local political campaign literature or photographs of a family reunion may be worth preserving.

Pack up your treasures and come to the Archives at 3303 Hillsdale Street, Regina, between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26. Our panel will include a rare book expert, a map archivist, a visual records archivist, a film and video archivist, a private records archivist, and a conservator. Reference archivists will be available in researching the provenance of your materials and your family history. Photographs, homestead records, Saskatchewan newspapers, passenger ship records, the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1906 Census Records will also be available for research. There will be screenings of historical films and refreshments will be available. Orientation tours of the facility will be held throughout the day, and you will have an opportunity to meet the staff. So if you have never visited the Saskatchewan Archives before, or just wondered "what the heck is an archives anyway?" This is your opportunity!
