SASKATCHEWAN ARCHIVES LAUNCHES BIRTH OF A PROVINCE WEBSITE

12/2/2005

To celebrate the Centennial of the province of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Archives Board has created a special website that will be of interest to students, teachers and anyone interested in the history of the province. This on-line exhibit and virtual educational resource centre will take you on a journey to Saskatchewan in 1905. Through the hundreds of photographs, maps, newspapers, government records and private writings, you will be transplanted back in time and learn what life was like in Saskatchewan during a time of settlement, growth and enthusiasm.

The site is put in historical context with an essay by University of Saskatchewan history professor, Dr. Bill Waiser. Each one of the ten portals of the site is introduced by a fictional character from the era, who offers his or her observations of events and of what was important to citizens of Saskatchewan at the time. In browsing each portal, you will discover a wealth of digital resources -- a unique selection of primary source materials from the collections of Saskatchewan Archives.

The purpose of this website is to provide access to some of the documentary treasures found at the Saskatchewan Archives in Regina and Saskatoon. If you cannot visit the Archives, this is the next best thing!
