Timeline: City of Saskatoon Archives

Don Kerr and Stan Hanson played a pivotal role in the establishment of the City of Saskatoon Archives. Kerr and Hanson wanted to write a history of Saskatoon but found that the records of the City of Saskatoon were poorly managed and inaccessible to researchers. As a result of their advocacy, the first batch of historical records belonging to the City of Saskatoon were transferred to the Saskatchewan Archives in 1979 so that they could conduct their research. In this photograph from 1982, Don Kerr (left) and Stan Hanson display the fruits of their research: their newly published book Saskatoon: The First Half-Century. It would take until 1985 before the City of Saskatoon Archives was formally created. SK Archives Photo, StarPhoenix Collection, S-SP-A18518-2
