Timeline: A.S. Morton

Arthur Silver Morton was a key figure in the formation of the Historical Public Records Office (HPRO) and was placed in charge of the HPRO upon its creation in 1937. Sadly, Dr. Morton died in January 1945 just two months before the creation of the Saskatchewan Archives. Dr. Morton had a great interest in Western Canadian history and travelled around Saskatchewan researching historic sites. In this photograph, Dr. Morton (on the right) is talking with Chief Robert Bear of the John Smith Reserve (now Muskoday First Nation) in August 1942. SK Archives Photo S-B865
