The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan's Board of Directors

Unique to other provincial archives across Canada, the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan is positioned at arms-length from government, allowing it to act with independence in carrying out its mandate, while reporting to government through a Minister responsible for the agency. The Archives and Public Records Management Act requires a board of directors to oversee institutional activities. The Board is responsible for:

  • Setting the strategic direction for the Archives
  • Appointing and supervising the work of the Provincial Archivist
  • Ratifying specific management and fiscal decisions
  • Preserving the autonomy and integrity of the institution and its Permanent Collection
  • Representing the institution to government and the wider community

The Board examines ways in which the key objects and functions of the Archives can be most effectively delivered; studies options for long-term planning in areas of accommodation and operating budgets; and analyses impacts to service delivery.  This ensures accountable management of the annual grant allocation from the Government of Saskatchewan, while exploring external funding opportunities and partnerships with other interest groups.

Our legislation provides for two representatives from the Saskatchewan public service, and one representative from the academic community involved with the social or archival sciences and up to six members of the community-at-large. The Provincial Archivist serves as Secretary to the Board.  Our current Board of Directors consists of:

Dr. Louise Greenberg, Chairperson

Celeste Rider, Vice Chairperson

Paul Crozier, Member, Assistant Cabinet Secretary and Clerk of the Executive Council

Lin Gallagher, Member, Deputy Minister, Environment

Dr. Raymond Blake, Member, Head and Professor, Department of History, University of Regina

Doug Chisholm, Member

Linda B. McIntyre, Secretary to the Board, Provincial Archivist

The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan's Board of Directors meets quarterly, in January, April, July and October.
